Joe and Jialin's recent paper "Adsorption of Lignin β-O-4 Dimers on Metal Surfaces in Vacuum and Solvated Environments" (ACS Sustainable Chem. Eng. 2019, 7, 2, 2667-2678) developed a new method to quantify the effects from the solvent on lignin dimer adsorption and suggested how to design both catalyst and solvent to tune lignin adsorption.
This paper was selected by the ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering Virtual Special Issue (VSI) - Catalytic Byproduct Valorization in Future Biorefineries on February 4th, 2019. This issue was "organized to highlight recent developments on catalytic systems devoted to the valorization of side streams generated by biomass refining, in particular their upgrading to value-added chemicals and materials".
