Biography:

Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering, Texas A&M University

M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Texas A&M University

B. Tech. in Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology-Madras

Dr. Jayavel Arumugam is passionate about education and is fascinated by the simplification of complex and coupled phenomena in mechanics. He did his B. Tech. at Indian Institute of Technology-Madras in Civil Engineering. Motivated by his professors in Structural Engineering and Applied Mechanics, he pursed a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University. This research involved simplification and modeling of coupled electromechanical phenomena in ionic polymer-metal composite beams. He continued his PhD at Texas A&M University and worked on simplifying the biomechanical response of blood during coagulation in order to characterize excessive clotting. His passion for teaching was encouraged by two graduate teaching academy awards. As a postdoc, he works towards elucidating the mechanisms through which electromechanics is coupled to blood flow within the heart. Such elucidation is expected to improve cardiac resynchronization therapies.
