Experimental and theoretical Modeling for Biomechanical Research (EMBR)

The Experimental and theoretical Modeling for Biomechanical Research (EMBR) group is interested in understanding the mechanisms that relate the mechanical environment to the biological process of growth. We do so developing theoretical and numerical models that can describe and predict the behavior of biological systems, the so-called in silico studies. These mathematical models of soft biological tissues have already provided important insights into the development of multiple diseases (i.e. hypertension, aneurysms, heart failure, and cancer). We also perform in vitro testing of soft biological tissue, to inform our theoretical models and to test our theoretical assumptions.
