Laboratory of Advanced Manufacturing Processes

The Lab of Advanced Manufacturing Processes within the MSU Department of Mechanical Engineering engages in broad research on the cutting edge of new knowledge creation.

Topics of interest range from the development of innovative manufacturing concepts to the optimization of conventional manufacturing applications.

These challenges are addressed by fundamental and applied research on various manufacturing platforms while deploying a variety of materials such as powder, ingot, and sheet. The manufacturing scale ranges from micro devices to automobiles.

The manufacturing transformation we are enabling uses combinations of additive, subtractive, and deformation processing methods. We carefully design experiments to delineate the physics of the process so that analytical tools can be used to improve on the manufacturing state-of-the-art.

Our findings will enable us to translate the basic understanding of the processes into technologies for scaled production of useful products, while meeting the geometric and material constraints.
